Act II

Three ways in

Nobody is turned away. Every production needs more people behind it than on it, and the crew learn skills that theatres pay for.

On stage

Open auditions for every production. No experience needed, no audition piece to learn in advance. The company is chosen for the play, not for the year group, so a Year 8 can share a stage with a Year 13.

Backstage

Lighting, sound, stage management, set building and flying. Crew are trained on the school's rig by the theatre technician and run every performance themselves, with the stage manager calling the show from the book.

Wardrobe and props

Costume, hair, make up and the props table. The wardrobe team dress a company of forty in under fifteen minutes on show nights, and half of what the audience sees was made in the art rooms.

Act III

Auditions

Auditions for A Midsummer Night's Dream are on Tuesday 14th October, 4.00pm to 6.00pm in the Drama Studio. Come for any twenty minutes in that window.

  1. Sign up on the Drama Studio door by Friday 10th October, or send the Director of Drama a message. Late arrivals on the day are seen if there is time.
  2. Nothing to prepare. Auditions are workshops in groups of six. You will read from the play, be given a scene to play twice, and be asked to try it a different way the second time.
  3. The company is announced on Monday 20th October on the Drama noticeboard and by email home. Every pupil who auditions is offered a place somewhere, on stage or backstage.

Booking opens three weeks before each production through the school box office. Parents and carers receive the link by email, and the school office holds a small number of seats for families without online access. Seats are unreserved. Doors open thirty minutes before curtain up.

The Hall has level access, a hearing loop and a wheelchair space on each side of row C. The relaxed performance keeps the house lights half up and the doors open throughout.
